Karan Munuswamy, M.D.

Karan Munuswamy, M.D. received his Medical Degree from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India in 1975. He has completed his Internship and Residency at St. Francis Medical Center (an affiliate of Hanneman Medical College) in Trenton, New Jersey where he specialized in Internal Medicine and completed his Fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Missouri Health Science Center in Columbia, Missouri in 1983. He was the recipient of the “Best Resident Award” during his residency program.

Following completion of his post-graduate training, Dr. Munuswamy served as the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Chief of Medical Staff at Pompano Beach Medical Center and Chairman of numerous committees at PBMC, Holy Cross Hospital and Imperial Point Medical Center. He is currently serving as the Medical Co-Director of Cardiology Associates of Fort Lauderdale’s accredited Nuclear Laboratory.

Dr. Munuswamy is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Nuclear Cardiology. He recently obtained Board recertification in Nuclear Cardiology as well as Level 1 and 2 certification in Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.

Dr. Munuswamy is a member of various professional organizations and is presently a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and a Diplomate of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the Society of Computer Tomography.

Dr. Munuswamy has published numerous medical papers in peer-review journals and has remained active in clinical research. He has received numerous achievement awards and has been recognized by various institutions including the American Heart Association of Broward County where he served as its President for 5 years. In addition, he is presently serving as President of the Leadership Council of the American Diabetes Association, Broward Chapter. He is also President of the Association of Indians in America, South Florida Chapter.

Dr. Munuswamy’s areas of interest include treating patients with heart failure, lipid abnormalities, risk stratification before surgery and hypertension.

Dr. Munuswamy enjoys playing Indian classical music and golf. He was born in Secunderabad, India and has been a Florida resident since 1983. Dr. Munuswamy is married with 2 children and, besides English, speaks Hindi, Tamil and Telegu.
